East Kazakhstan: Winter killing and hail reduced the harvest

This year extreme weather conditions spoiled the prospects for a good harvest for the growers of Glubokovsky area, writes the correspondent of  the IA “Kazakh-Zerno”. Spring field works were carried out in the optimum time by agricultural enterprises, but due to the winter killing and hail damage they had to write off almost 8 thousand hectares of cereals, oilseeds and corn.

Drought in July coupled with the above mentioned circumstances significantly reduced crop yields.

– Winter rye on average across the area showed about 28 q/ , spring wheat – about 17 q/ha, which is below last year’s figures. The volume of gross agricultural production in the area is 6.1 billion tenge, which is 16 percent lower than in the same period last year. Index of actual volume of gross agricultural output – 95.4%, said the akim of Glubokovsky area Arman Bekbosynov.

As of today, according to him, farmers in the region harvested more than 70% of acreage. Rains that did not stop in the region for several days slowed down the pace of harvesting activities a little bit. “We plan to finish harvesting by the end of the month”, said A. Bekbosynov.
