Food prices in March in Kazakhstan increased by 1.3%

Consumer price index in Kazakhstan in March of this year compared with the previous month was 1%, reported the Statistics Agency on Tuesday.

Since the beginning of the year (compared with December 2013), inflation was 3.3%, in annual terms (compared with March 2013 year) – 6.2%.

According to the Agency, food prices in the past month increased by 1.3 %, non-food – by 1%, paid services – by 0.5%.

Last month, the average price increase for the country was noted for fresh vegetables by 7.5%, potatoes – by 6.8%, sugar – by 6%, fresh fruit – by 4%, rennet cheese – by 3.7%, cottage cheese, fish and seafood – by 1.8%, rice – by 1.7%, oat groats – by 1.4%, sausages, meat products – by 1.2%, pasteurized milk – by 1%, dairy products, flour – by 0.9%, bread, soft drinks, butter – by 0.8%, semolina, pasta – by 0.4%. Price declines were recorded for eggs by 2.8%, buckwheat – by 1.5%, sunflower oil – by 0.6%.

It should be noted, according to statistics, the subsistence minimum per capita, calculated on the basis of minimum standards of consumption of basic foodstuffs, in March 2014 amounted to 18 000 45 tenge, which is 2.1% more than in February of this year, reported the IA “Kazakh-Zerno”.

Compared with March 2013, it increased by 5.2%.

In the structure of subsistence minimum the share of expenditures for meat and fish was 22.7%, milk, oil and fat products and eggs – 16.7%, fruit and vegetables – 10.9%, bread and cereal products – 7.6%, sugar, tea and spices – 2.1%.
