Indonesia to buy Thai rice

Новость на Казах-зерно:

Despite the higher price of Thai rice, Indonesia is likely to secure a large volume for domestic consumption and distribution.

Pol Maj Sarawut Sakulmeerit, Director at the Public Warehouse Organisation (PWO), said Thailand is selling rice to Indonesia as they couldn’t secure orders from Vietnam and India.

“It’s good news but the amount is still uncertain,” Mr Sarawut said, adding that The Food Hall, a key Indonesian retailer, was interested in buying a large volume of packed Hom Mali rice from Thailand. Thai exports of rice are down by 50% this year due to fierce price competition in the world market.
