Kazakhstan: Cattle population in Zhambyl region increased by 2.5%

In January-August this year in all categories of farm households in Zhambyl, according to regional statistics department, about 62 thousand tons of cattle and poultry in live weight was sold for slaughter, or 103.6% compared with the level of the same period last year.

According to statistics, the gross milk yield increased by 4.8 th. Tons (by 2.5%) and amounted to 195.3 th. tons. Egg production compared with last year increased by 7,347 thousand pieces (by 0.9%). In January-August 2015 the average milk yield per cow of a dairy herd totaled 1,865 kg; the average yield of eggs per a laying hen is 118 pieces.

As of September 1, 2015 compared to the same period last year, cattle population in farm households of the region increased by 2.5% (by 8.3 thousand heads), sheep and goats – by 1.6% ( by 45.9 thousand heads), horses – by 3.6% (by 3.8 thousand heads), and the number of pigs decreased by 5.2% (by 1,842 heads), birds – by 10.3% (by 128.8 thousand heads), reports the IA “Kazakh-Zerno”. During this period, the region produced 110.2 thousand heads of calves, 1,107.1 thousand lambs and kids, 41,6 thousand pigs, 33.7 thousand foals.

In January-August 2015 loss of cattle at farms of the region amounted to 167 heads(140.3% compared to the level of the previous year), mortality of sheep and goats – 3,317 heads (49.8%), horses -122 heads(2.5 times).

In the production of the basic types of livestock products the predominant part accounts for private farm households of the population, which produced 72.1% of meat, 83.4% of the milk, 62.0% of eggs.

“The volume of gross agricultural output in January-August 2015 in the region at current prices amounted to 75,754.2 mllion tenge, or 104% compared with the corresponding period of 2014”, noted in the statistics department.
