Kazakhstan: In the Karaganda region planted area was increased by 3.9 %

In 2013 the sown area of crops in the Karaganda region amounted to 996.8 thousand hectares and increased compared to the previous year by 3.9 %.

According to the data of the regional statistics office, the share of agricultural crops of peasant and farm households was 57.3 %, and agricultural enterprises – 42%, private farms – 0.7 %.

The largest area (67.2 %) is planted with grains and legumes, sowing of which has grown in comparison with 2012 by 0.8 %. In the structure of grain crops and leguminous crops the largest share is occupied by wheat – 77.8%. The share of barley is 19.2 %, oats – 2.2%, legumes – 0.8 %. Compared with last year the crops of oats increased by 2.7 times, barley – by 22.4 %.

Oilseeds are planted on 32.3 thousand acres; it is by 89.8 % more than in the last year’s period. Of oilseed crops flax planting have increased significantly – by 88.8 %, safflower – by 67.2 %.

Sown area of forage crops increased by 6.8 %. The share of fodder crops in the total cultivated area is 28%.

Potatoes sowing occupied 12.9 thousand hectares, or 98.1 % to2012.

Field vegetables planting are reduced by 1.9% compared with 2012. At the same time, increased sowing of onion by 60.8 %, cabbage – by 17.7%, peppers – by 16.4%, carrots – by 7.3%, garlic – by 7.1%, eggplant – by 5.2%, tomato – 2%. “The increase in acreage is observed in 13 districts of the region. The largest increase compared with the last year is fixed in Shahtinsk – by 7.5 % , Osakarovsky – by 5.5 % , Shetsky – by 5.4%, Karkaralinsky – 5.1% and Ulytausky – 5% areas”, noted the statistics.

It should be noted that Karaganda growers started harvesting crops. So, today, in the region cereals are mowed on 19.6 thousand ha, including wheat – 5 thousand ha, barley – 13 thousand hectares and oats – 1.6 thousand hectares, reports the IA “Kazakh-Zerno”. Average yield is 10 q/ha.
