Farmers of Karaganda region expect to receive grain harvest in the amount of 700 thousand tons this fall. Of these, 500 thousand tons will accrue to wheat.
This was announced at a meeting in the akimat by the head of the regional department of agriculture Asanov Baurzhan.
Despite the difficult spring and delay in spring sowing due to bad weather conditions, hot summer with occasional rain gives farmers a reason to expect to harvest at least 10 – 11 quintals of cereal crops per hectare. This is higher than the average harvest for the region.
Gross harvest of potatoes is expected to reach 300 thousand tons with the average yield of 224 kg per hectare. Vegetables crop will amount to 90 thousand tons.
– This amount will be enough to meet the needs of the region and to export to other areas, said Asanov Baurzhan. – For example, the volume of potato harvest will be twice higher than the necessary amount for Karaganda region, so that some part of the crop as usual will go to the capital and other cities.
Livestock breeders also plan to finish haymaking before the harvesting campaign; putting to the warehouses a two-year supply of roughage feed in the amount of 1 million 100 thousand tons. Today 658 tons of hay is already harvested.
Mass harvest is expected in late August, said the correspondent of the IA “Kazakh-Zerno”. Although some farms in southern districts of the region have already begun to harvest fodder that was sown in early May. In general, readiness of machinery for the harvesting operations now stands at 83%.
