Introduction of fixed grain prices is to serve as a measure against unjustified increases in the price of bread.
According to the Memorandum inked by the Kazakh Ministry of Agriculture, local government offices, KazAgro and the Union of Grain Processors, starting from the first of August, about 1.3 million tonnes of grain will be delivered to the flour mills at the price of 28,000 tenge per tonne.
In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture will stop subsidizing transport costs for grain exporters. Assylzhan Mamytbekov explained that such a decision on subsidizing was taken when the price of grain in Kazakhstan amounted to 140 US dollars per tonne plus travel expenses to the port of Novorossiysk at the price of 273 dollars at the time. Now the price of grain in Novorossiysk is around 315 US dollars per tonne, which is why subsidies deemed inappropriate. The Minister of Agriculture Assylzhan Mamytbekov also reported that the average yield is projected to be about 8 tonnes per hectare. The country expects to export about 10 million tons of grain.
