On February 1, 2013 in backyards of Almaty breeders were about 832.3 thousand heads of cattle. Compared to the figures of 2012 their number increased slightly, according to the Republican Statistics Agency data.
Local farmers are still one of the main holders of cattle in the country. The share of their livestock across Kazakhstan exceeds 14.5%.
In addition, the region has seen positive growth in the number of small cattle too. In February last year, the number of sheep and goats in the region was close to 3 million 75.1 thousand heads. The current figure increased to 3 million 118.8 thousand.
Also, farmers have managed to increase the number of poultry almost by 473 thousand units (on 02.01.2013 – 9 million 937.4 thousand), and 5.5 million heads of horses (on 1.01.2013g – 241.9 thousand).
