Kazakhstan: The number of cattle increased by 8%, pigs decreased by 48% in Zhambyl region

In January-February 2018, about 14.8 thousand tons of livestock and poultry on a live weight basis were sold for slaughter in all categories of zhambyl farms, or 103.5 percent against the level of this period last year.

The total milk yield increased by 0.9 thousand tons (by 3 percent) and amounted to 32.3 thousand tons. The production of eggs increased by 792.8 thousand pieces (by 6.1 percent) compared to last year, according to the regional department of statistics.

In January-February the average milk yield per cow of a dairy herd was 300 kg, the average yield of eggs is 24 pieces per one laying hen.

As of March 1, in comparison with the same period of the previous year, the number of cattle on the farms of the region increased by 7.9percent (27 thousand heads), sheep and goats – by 3.9percent (by 101 thousand heads), horses – by 4.6percent (by 4.9 thousand heads), poultry – by 4 percent (by 46.5 thousand heads), and the number of pigs decreased by 48.8percent (by 16.5 thousandheads), the IA “Kazakh-Zerno” reported.

During this period about 27.2 thousand head of calves, 200.3 thousand lambs and kids, 3 thousand piglets, 1 thousand foals were born in the region.

In the farms of the region in January-February 2018, 73 heads of cattle fell (149percent against the level of the previous year), 554 – sheep and goats (94.5percent).

In the production of the main types of livestock products, the largest part accounts for by personal subsidiary plots of the population, where 62.3 percent of meat, 76.8percent of milk, 35.8percent of eggs are produced.

“The volume of gross agricultural output in January-February 2018 in the region in current prices amounted to 13,799.6 million tenge,” according to the statistical report.
