Kazakhstan’s retail sales grows 11.9% to 1.6 trillion tenge in January-May 2012

Retail sales of non-food products increased by 9.6% compared to the corresponding period last year while sales of food products grew by 16%.

The volume of retail sales in Kazakhstan increased by 12% in January-May 2012 over the same period in 2011 and reached 1.5 trillion tenge. Sales of goods at large stores totaled nearly 831 billion tenge. This is a 10% increase over the same period in 2011. The volume of trade in markets and by individual entrepreneurs increased by 14%. The retail business is dominated by non-food products.
