Killers of 3,000 saigaks arrested in Kazakhstan

In September and October 2019, the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a series of operational-search measures during which a group of poachers was detaining, KazakhZerno.kz reports.

Investigative actions were carrying out in the western and southern regions of Kazakhstan. During the investigation, it turned out that a group of poachers for several months engaged in the illegal shooting of saigak individuals in order to profit from the sale of their horns.

During the searches, 1,118 kilograms of horns were seizing, which is tantamount to killing 3,000 saigak individuals. According to the press service of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the damage caused to the state is estimating at more than 5.6 billion tenge. The National Security Committee detained 18 members of a poaching group, of which 9 were taken into custody.  Participants accused of participating in organized crime groups and illegal handling of rare animals.
